Jim & Dominique founded Whichford Pottery in 1976. Twenty years later they combined their skills and talents to produce their distinctive Sgraffito earthenware.
Jim is the thrower and makes every piece on the potter’s wheel, paying meticulous attention to detail. You will catch glimpses of many influences in the shapes, from Minoan to Italian Renaissance though Jim would see common principles of weight and line in all good pots, whatever their origin in space and time.
Dominique does the decorating, scratching her designs through a thin coating of white slip. This is a particulary skill to master, as a mark once made cannot be changed or hidden. She enjoys adapting to the shapes Jim throws at her and is constantly discovering new motifs.
